The Orlando Sports Foundation is dedicated to raising funds and awareness in assistance to organizations and individuals working to find a cure for cancer through our Orlando Sports Foundation events. Our mission statement ⎼”Bringing Teams Together to Find a Cure for Cancer.”
Our teams include our Cure Bowl Football teams, teams of cancer survivors, golf, bowling, disc golf and running group teams.
Our foundation works with our stakeholders to involve the entire community to join us in our quest to find a cure for cancer. We focus on research because we know we will all have to continue to manage the problem until we solve it. We focus our efforts on cancer because it touches so many lives. In 2020, an estimated 606,520 will die from cancer in the US alone.
One in eight US women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer and one in six men will be diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer. One in 16 people in the US will be diagnosed with Lung Cancer and smoking is still the number one cause of Lung Cancer.
The economic impact of cancer is significant and is increasing. The total annual economic cost of cancer in 2010 was estimated at approximately US $1.16 trillion.
Around one-third of deaths from cancer are due to the leading behavioral and dietary risks: high body mass index, low fruit and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and alcohol use. Tobacco use is the most important risk factor for cancer and is responsible for approximately 22% of cancer deaths.
Each event we hold will raise funds for awareness and research. Our events include our signature event, The Cure Bowl, televised on ESPN each December. The Orlando Sports Foundation holds the Cure Cup Golf Tournament held exclusively at Isleworth and Lake Nona Country Clubs. OSF holds an annual Strike Out Breast Cancer bowling event, Annual Race 2 Cure, Aces for a Cure disc golf tournament, and OSF’s President’s Kick Off to Cure Luncheon.
We hope that you will join us, it will take an army to raise the funds needed to keep supplying the researchers with resources to Cure cancer. It is not the death sentence it once was; progress has been made, however, cancer certainly continues to impact us all.
Through the platform of Orlando Sports Foundation events and The Cure Bowl 3.88 million dollars has been raised for cancer research. We need your help. We cannot do this without you. Join us today, “Together, We Can Tackle This!”
