A HOT, HOT Cure Classic Combine | 2021

The Orlando Sports foundation hosted it first annual Cure Classic Combine to high school football players to give them an insider look on the college recruiting process and prepare high school athletes from the Cure Classic All-Star game this December.

It was a HOT, HOT Cure Classic Combine last Sunday. There were athletes from 20 Central Florida High Schools competing with themselves for the best times and distances to place on their recruiting platforms.

it was a very successful day with 71 athletes going through four stations of measurements in order to build a recruiting platform for recruiting in the fall. The majority of the athletes were seniors, class of 2022, with a smattering of underclassmen. There were 195 registrations to attend but some local high school teams went to a FCA Camp in Lakeland on that same day so we had a high attrition rate. But the success of this first Cure Classic Combine will speak well for its future.

Speaking of times, there were a number of players running excellent 40-yard Dashes. The NFL world’s fastest time is 4.22 and second, is our own Chris Johnson of Olympia High, who ran a 4.24. So, the time of 4.515 by Noah Putnam of Wekiva High and 4.546 by Jaurice Thompson, formerly of South Lake High in Lake County and now at Georgia Prep Sports Academy, are excellent in comparison. There were a number of players that ran the 40’s in 4.6+.

Two athletes, CJ Brooks of Olympia High and Henry Calixte of Evans, were the first to be selected to play in the Annual Cure Classic All Star Game in December, 2021.

Bringing Teams together to find a Cure for Cancer is the Orlando Sports Foundation Mission, so watching these fine-tuned athletes go through the drills and display their skills was an honor for the OSF.

There were two recruiting services in attendance and writers from Sport Illustrated and the Orlando Sentinel. Varsity Sports Network had a cameraman on site and will include the Combine on their show, the Gridiron Report, viewed on VSN Streaming, on July 28th at 7pm.
